This section of
my website contains a general troubleshooting area for
computers. If a problem occurs with your computer, you may
not need to pay for telephone support or for an engineer to come
round. Instead, there are other options available to you.
Firstly, if you
are using Windows XP or Windows ME and there is a software
problem with your computer, for example your settings have been
changed, or you are getting crashes or error messages you didn't
get before, you can sometimes fix the problem by doing a system
restore.
All you need to
do is as follows;
1. Click
"Start".
2. Click "Programs" if you are using Windows ME or "All
Programs" if you are using Windows XP.
3. Click "Accessories", then "System Tools", then "System
Restore".
4. Click "Restore my computer to an earlier time", then click
"Next".
5. Now you need to click a date and time before the problem
started occurring to restore your computers settings to this
date and time. You do this by clicking a date in bold on
the calendar on the left, and then a time in the list on the
right.
6. You can then click "Next" and begin the restore procedure.
Make sure you follow the instructions on the screen. If
the system restore doesn't fix your problem then you can undo
your restore by opening the system restore program again, or you
can choose another system restore date and time and try again.
If you don't
have a software problem, or if system restore doesn't fix your
problem, then there are internet chat sites called forums where
you can describe your problem and people will then try to help
you fix it. The one I use can be found
here. I
post on there under the username "wasc". All you need to
do is sign up and then post your question in the relevant
section. You can also feel free to email me and ask
for assistance. My email address can be found by clicking
the envelope icon in the bottom right corner of this webpage.
